Love and Sorrow : The Tale of the Swallows

This is a true story, captured in a few photos.

This story is about two swallows (Burung Layang-layang), presumably male and female, or a couple, or lovebirds.
This story shows to us humans, that animals have feelings too.

It is very touching to see that even a bird can show so much compassion towards its partner.

The female swallow, the girlfy to the male swallow, is injured.
She was hit by a car, and she's in a critical condition.
However, she was still breathing, hanging on for dear life.

"Help me!"

Then, the boyfy of the female swallow came to her aid.
She brought some food for her.
How sweet. The boyfy was very caring and he really loves his girlfy very much.

"Don't you worry darling, for i am here"

The boyfy then went away to get some more food for the dying girlfy.
Unfortunately, when he came back..

...the girlfy is dead.

"Sayang.. bangun laa.. I bawak makanan ni.."

The boyfy could not believe it!
His beloved partner has left him forever.
He tried and tried to wake his girlfy, but sadly, to no avail.

"Dont leave me please!!!"

The boyfy cried and screamed as hard as he could.
He was too late. Even tears of blood could not bring the girlfy back.

"You will always be in my heart.. forever."

He finally realised that the girlfy has left him forever.
He stood there for days and nights, just to accompany the body of the girlfy.
His love for her remains.. forever.

"Okay then, time to find another girl."

So, you see,
even swallows have feelings. And they showed it pretty well.

Humans think that they are the only ones with feelings..
Now think again.
They have feelings too.

Take good care of your loved ones, before it's too late.

International Left-Handers Day

Hell yeah!
Today is our day people!
Today, we, lefties, rule!
We have our own special day to celebrate, and at an international scale as well!
Is there any day for you "righties"?
NO!

I am Legend

Being a lefty has always been something special.
People would always go..

eh, dia tulis tangan kiri la.

Wow, you're a lefty!

Laa.. kidal rupenye dia ni.

..stuffs like that.

Okay okay, let's move on to the history of the day first.
13 August was chosen as the lefties day, just to increase the public awareness regarding
the advantages and the disadvantages of being a lefthander. It was first observed in 1976, but the whole thing was made official in 1992, or so they say.
I must be joking, you might think. No.

Being a lefty has a lot of advantages and disadvantages.
When i was little, i remember that most of the people around me scolded me for using my left hand to write. It's not my choice, really.
Some old folks tale says that lefties are children of Satan (LOL), and so on.
It is also related to hygiene or some sort, as we Asians, Malaysians to be precise, use our left hand to wash our asses. hahaha

I am so gonna buy this

But hell, who cares. I don't like stereotype. I dare to be different. cewah. So, i see it as a gift.
As i grow older, more and more people start to praise my leftiness. They say that lefties are intelligent, genius, brilliant, you know the drill. Basically, lefties are smarter.
Well, there is a living proof, innit? heheh.

Read only if you have one

People who use their left hands uses more of their right brain, and righties vice versa. Basically, people who uses their right-brain are more creative, and are more intuitive, while people who uses more of their left-brain are more analytical.
To put it simple, lefties are cool, and righties are boring. Yeah!

Swiss knife for lefties!

I still have some difficulties though. For example, when using scissors. The handles are somehow righty-oriented, and therefore, i would prefer tearing things apart rather than cutting it. heheh.

This is not Jawi

Writing is also a big problem. Since the normal way to write is from left to right, so, writing from left to right using the left hand would be a pain in the ass, especially when using a gel-based pen. There would be smears all over the place, especially for a fast writer like me.
The only way to write without smears, is to write in Jawi or Arabic, which obviously i suck at.

But hey, i'm not really a lefty out and out. I'm more of an ambidextrous person. I play football using my right leg, i play snooker/badminton/squash/tennis/pingpong using my right hand, and of course, i know how to eat the proper way.

God is fair, and that's why these difficulties are offset with creativity, intelligence, and of course, good looks.
wahahahahahaha

So, to all you lefties out there, today is our day, and let's enjoy it.
Because LEFT is RIGHT!

SIFE National Competition 2009

This is the reason why i haven't been updating my blog for quite some time now.
I've been busy. Really busy with this thing called SIFE, Students in Free Enterprise.
I never thought that i would enter this kind of organisation, let alone be apart of the presenting and competing team.
Yes, that's how much joining this have changed me.

SIFE University of Malaya is competing for the first time in this competition, which has been dominated by UiTM ever since its inception.
This is the first time for SIFE UM as it is still new for UM. Just established earlier this year.
Basically, SIFE is about entrepreneurship and all. And this competition pits all of the participating universities, where we all present our projects which impacts not only ourselves but the community and the nation as well.

I was in the presenting team, and to tell you the truth, i never had experiences presenting in front of a very large crowd before. So, imagine PWTC for a first-timer. Hell yeah, it is an achievement, it is an accomplishment, at least for me.

The size of the room does not prevent the size of fear from growing

A total of 14 universities took part in this year's competition, and is divided into 4 small leagues of 4 and 3. Our team were lucky enough to be inside the league with not-so-big names. In this round, we presented to around 7 judges inside a small room. But even this small room can become a big fear.

A few days before the big day, i was still unable to memorize my part and all. And there was a lot of stuttering and all. Damn. But luckily and fortunately, i managed to overcome that and i was able to present smoothly (almost) in front of the judges. Damn, what a relief it was. And to our delight, we managed to go through to the final round, the Final Four of the competition, which is the next day.
Somehow, having been able to do quite well in the first round has boosted our confidence level. So, for the final round, i wasn't as shaky and as nervous as i was in the first round the day before. But this time around, we have to present inside the main hall with around 14 judges, who are CEOs of big big companies plus hundreds of other spectators.

SIFE Universiti Malaysia Sabah won the competition and truly deserved their award and are sure more than able to carry Malaysia's name in the SIFE World Cup to be held in Germany later this year. Although we did not win the competition, it was such a huge achievement for us because we are inside the final four in our first ever try.
We have made an impact, and there's more to come.

This experience is surely invaluable to me and also to the others as well. We did not only win a lot of hearts with our approach, we also made a lot of new friends and not to mention business contacts (i like!). SIFE UM will surely come back stronger next year, and will prove what the judges say; SIFE UM is the team to watch out next year. Hell yeah we are.

All the hardwork and all the pain, sweat, blood and tears have finally paid off. 3 hours of sleep a day (or even less), and a lot more that we have all gone through. I even lost a few kgs (great!)!
Therefore, I'm grateful to Allah for giving me this opportunity to improve myself and also for giving me the will and courage to go through everything. I would also like to thank my family, the girlfy, and my friends for their endless support.
Last but not least, i would like to say thanks to all the advisors, presenters and other SIFE UM group members for always being there to help (Geng GSS rocks!). It has been a pleasure knowing all of you guys, and working with you guys, and i'm looking forward to achieving success with these bunch of great people.

Success is written all over this picture. LOL

Now, it's time to take a break for a while (just a while), pay my sleep debts, party and enjoy a lil' bit perhaps, and focus on my studies (ahem) for sure, before plotting a new plan to bring SIFE UM to the World Cup in Los Angeles, next year.
Amin.

Finally 50

Hey hey, it's my 50th post!
It is up to you to say

50 already?

or

Just 50?

To me, it's more like the latter rather than the former. To think that i've started this blog sometime last year, and to reach just 50 posts in almost a year, that is not a fair return.
Well, it's true, i don't blog as often as most bloggers do. But hell, i do things my way, under my rules, right?
Quality is more important that quantity, ain't that true?
But still, i'll try my best to at least write something once or twice a week.

Looking back at my previous posts, it is fair to say that my blog posts are rather long, and there's at least something worth reading, in my opinion.
I don't do one-liner posts, i don't simply post a lyric of a song, or just a video, or something with no bloody meaning or without substance. Heck, i don't even really use shortforms and stupid typing styles.
But hey, every blog is different and different people have different styles i guess.

And finally, i would also like to thank the readers of this blog. Though it may be just 50 posts old it is your support that kept me going (cewah moment). And thanks a lot for the comments too. Really appreciate it. At least there are people who read my blog, and even have the time to comment it. I never really expected that. Thanks.

Oh and by the way, i've started working already. A part-time job, that is. I guess i just can't stand idling around the house (!!) and doing nothing (!!!).
ahahaha

What you give you get back.

It's been quite some time since this blog is updated.
Usual excuses lah, busy, study, assignments, busy, lazy, busy and so on.

Lately, and surprisingly, there's not much stories for me to tell. But here's one.
The theme for this post is "Sedekah".

Last weekend, i went out for dinner with the girlfy. After eating our hearts out, we headed back to the car. While getting inside the car, i rolled down the windscreen, it's kinda cold. No air-cond needed (budget minyak sebenarnya).

Just as i entered the car, there's this not-so-small kid, probably in secondary school, came to the car, and approached me.
Bang, saya nak mintak sedekah bang.
Saye takde duit.
Err.. nenek saya sakit.

So, i stopped for a while. Usually, under certain circumstances, i would donate some money, and under some other certain circumstances, i would just brush them off, although it may make me feel guilty, but what the hell.
Basically, i'm picky about who i want to donate to.
I'll only donate to people that looks really in need of the money, looks desperate, or really old, heavily impaired, or that kind of thing, you know.

I will usually look into their eyes first, and i can see their honesty (cewahh). If the person, or the situation is right, i will donate, ikhlas.

But the problem is, when the person who approaches me looks kinda shady, or doesn't look in need of help at all, hell, i won't hesitate to say no. My instinct says so.

So, back to the story of this boy again.
I looked at him. Looked into his eyes. The boy doesn't look poor. His clothes are all fine. He's fat, for god's sake.
And his stuttering confirms my judgement.

So, i just smiled and said,
Takpelah dik.
There was a feeling of guilt though. But who cares.

But the boy didn't move. He stayed there. Standing, and poorly trying to make a sorry face.
I didn't buy it.
As i was about to move the car, he's still standing there, basically blocking my way.
So i said,
Dik, tepi sikit dik. Kereta nak jalan ni.

Then the boy stood there for around 30 seconds.
He then finally moved away. As he backed off the car, he said,
Eeee.. Kedekutnya!
And he runs away.

Feeling furious, i almost got out of the car before being reprimanded by the girlfy.
Kurang ajar punya budak. Bastard.

So, i thought to myself, it's a good thing i didn't give that boy any money. I knew straight away that he's just pretending and looking for easy money.
Whatever, i went back.

So, later at night, as i was watching the tv, and channel surfing, i came across one channel, i'm not sure what. It was a religious talkshow, just like Al-Kuliyyah or Forum Perdana or something. (Ahaha, surprised huh?)

I have to admit, i don't normally watch these shows. But somehow i stopped channel surfing and kept on watching. (Again, surprise!)
So, the topic of the day for the programme was...

You guessed it, "Sedekah".

Okay, so i was like, oh, what a coincidence. Kinda freaky too.

Unbelievably, i watched the WHOLE show (believe it, damn it).
Read carefully, the WHOLE show.

A few points that i remembered of the show was:
  • It doesn't matter how much you donate, as long as you donate, even a single cent, it's already meaningful.
  • It doesn't matter who you donate it to, and it doesn't matter whether the person asking for the donation needs it or not. What matters is you help when people asked for it. If the person cheats, that's between he/she and God.
  • Sedekah is one of the best ways to get pahala.
  • Giving away money to donate does not cleanse the bad things you have done.
  • I think that's enough before you start fainting. (I'm surprised with myself too).
So, basically, the second point is the one which really hits me hard.
Damn, makan dalam beb.

So, basically, that's it.
I felt kinda guilty.
No, really really guilty.
*insaf sejenak*

So, if you were in my place, what would YOU do?
How would you react when the boy said those words?
Am i right to do so? Should i be feeling guilty?

So, the lesson for today is:
  1. Always remember to sedekah.
  2. Always watch religious programmes. (Ahem, big time)
  3. Expect the unexpected. Who says i can't give religious lectures? LOL
  4. Expect more tazkirah, Arf's version. hahahahahahahahahah

4 reasons why i'm getting fatter this holiday

Okay okay, i admit it. I've not really been working out as much as i wanted to during the holidays. It's not really that i'm getting fat or what, it's just that i'm really lazy and all. hahaha. So, i've been thinking, why? Why am i really lazy during this holiday season? (when not?)
I came up with 4 reasons.

4. The weather
The weather is very important. It plays a huge role in making one a lazy a person. Well of course, it is the end of the year. And so, it tends to rain a lot. Day, night, morning, everytime.
So, how am i supposed to not laze around when the weather is so err.. permitting?
hahaha

3. Sleeping pattern
It's the holidays right? So, when else to sleep like a king? And, as stated in reason number 5, the weather surely helps huh?
And when it rains in the morning, i tend to oversleep. So, basically, i wake up late, really really late.
rain = sleep + laziness.

2. Lack of motivation?
Well, not really lack of motivation. It's more towards attitude. And procrastination. Plus a lot of laziness. And a whole load of excuses. LOL

1. Food!
Of course, the main bloody reason. How the hell am i supposed to be motivated to be active enough when there's plenty of food? Not just in the house, even outside, even on TV!
Yeah, even on TV, there's just too much shows on food. Planet Food, Destination Food, Jamie's Kitchen, Nigella Bites, Bizzare Food, you name it!
It's all food food food!
Plus, the sister with her weekend project(which involves food, of course), oh gosh, i can't say no to that!

No, i won't be posting pics of food or whatsoever. Nope.

So, there, that's it. Now that i came up with all the bloody reasons i could think of, i can't help but feel a bit guilty for not really using this time to exercise and work out. But then again, nevermind lah! I'm not fat, so that's okay i guess.
Time to get lazy!
hahahahahaha

Busy? Think again.

Finally the week is almost ending. What a tiring week it has been. And it feels like a really long week for me. And i'm not really looking forward to the weekend pun.

This week has been a busy week for me. Not really busy studying or anything, it's just that there is a Hari Keusahawanan at the university. We had to take part as it is part of the evaluation for one of the subjects in my course. Basically we had to sell something for 2 days, using our own money and resources and everything else. All the university did was just to give us a place to sell.

So, everything went great. Everything was sold. No losses recorded. Only profits. Even the lecturers/evaluators/judges looks pretty impressed. So, a success actually.

Since the exams are just a few weeks away, there's not much classes left anymore. But then again, there's still lots of work to be done. And for the record, i have to attend this bloody seminar on i don't know what, this Saturday. It's compulsory, and i even have to pay for it. WTF? It's still raya season right, why do it now? I have many openhouses to attend and duit rayas to collect. ahaha.

So basically, these few days, i am a really busy person. Busy sangatlah konon. That's why this blog is left outdated for a few days, i guess. hahaha. But then again, what's so busy? I don't think that there's such a thing as too busy.

I'm sure most of you people have used the excuse of being busy, or been used against it.
Busylah...

When you ask someone, why didn't you update your blog? Busylah...
When you ask someone, why haven't you done this and that? Busylah...
When you ask your bf/gf, why didn't you call/text me? Busylah...

And i could go on and on, listing stupid questions with the same answer.

So, how busy can you be anyway, huh?
Come on lah.
That's all bullshit.

You can go and lepak with your friends all the time, you can be online 24/7, you can still skip classes, you can just sleep the whole day, and yet you say you are busy.
What, you're doing something, for example, studying so hard that you don't even have the time to do something else at all?
Or maybe too busy with "assignments" that you can't even call your parents?
Yeah right.

I'm not pointing fingers to anyone or anything. And i admit that sometimes, i too, am guilty of this "busy-ness".
And i'm sure that YOU too are familiar with all this.

So, why the word busy? Why not 'forgot'? Or 'malas'?
Maybe that's being just too honest.

So, the word busy is the best word huh? You won't sound like you have neglected something/someone, and yet you can maintain your credibility. Great.

So the next time you hear someone saying that they are busy, you know exactly what they mean.
And if you are a "i'm-the-busiest-person-in-this-world" type of person, stop your bullshit already. You're not that busy.

And oh, the Hari Keusahawanan pics maybe will be uploaded soon, with full stories, of course.

Not Just Another Raya Greeting

Just got back from watching the Arfsenal - Hull City match..
Yeah, damn it. Arfsenal lost. At home. To Hull City pulak tu.
Okay all you Arfsenal haters. Flame me if you want. Flame Arfsenal if you want.
I've already received a few right after the whistle blew.
Damn you all.
Whatever you say, Arfsenal is still the best. (-_-)
Sometimes, hero pun kena kalah jugak sekali-sekala kan?

My raya mood is not hampered by the loss though. Still excited for raya. Not THAT excited, but hey, it's raya kan? So what's there not to be happy about?

It's already Sunday, but KL is still as busy as ever. There's still millions of cars around.
Wherever i go, there's always a bloody traffic jam.
What's even worse, nak keluar rumah pun jam!
What the hell is wrong with all these people? Go balik kampung la. Enough of raya shopping already. It's better that you save the money for the duit raya. heheh.

Oh, and by the way, i would like to thank all of you out there who wished me a happy hari raya. I've received quite a lot of wishes and e-greetings already. Thanks a lot. But i still prefer the ol'skool way though. Ol'skool' kad raya that is. So far, i've received one. That's considered a lot nowadays i guess. hahaha. Looks like the postman won't have that many mails to deliver this raya with all the e-greetings, e-mails, SMSes and what not.

Among the greetings that i've received looks like this.

Thanks, but i think it's boring. It's simple. Everybody sends it. It's not even personalized. You don't even have your name on it. Some more got the name of the website of the creator of the image.

One word. Stereotype.

So, kononnya nak lain daripada yang lain, i decided to create my own e-greetings for you. It may be simple, it may be different from the rest, but at least i'm not being stereotype. muahahaha.

aha.
Say whatever you want to say, but at least i'm happy with it. Simple, subtle, and the message is clear. No corny ketupats and no explosives/mercun. And you should be thankful enough that i am considerate enough to send it to you. Count yourself lucky eh? ahaha.

But then again, you can send whatever you want to me. I don't mind you being stereotypical or following the rest. I don't mind you sending another picture of a mosque or a ketupat. It's okay really. Thanks a lot for the wishes.

So, after all the dissing, i would like to really wish you all Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, and Maaf Zahir dan Batin.
Seriously. That's pure honesty. From the bottom of my heart.
I may have offended you, you, you and you, purposely or not, either through this blog or through any other medium, or in any way that might offend or hurt you. I may have done bad things, or say stupid stuffs, or anything at all. Uh huh. That's deep man.
So, please forgive me.
And have a merry hari raya with your loved ones.

Call me vain. Call me anything. You can also puke.
This might not be the best greeting card ever, but at least you got the message or the true meaning straight from the sender right?
And at least it's "personalized" enough. ahahaha.

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

2 more days.

It's only Wednesday and i'm already feeling like a zombie. Again, my body clock is hay-wired. Haven't had a proper sleep since Sunday. And by saying proper sleep, it means at least 8 hours of sleep. Too many works, assignments, presentations and what not.
Lagi dekat nak cuti, lagi banyak kerja. (-_-)

But nevermind all that. The Barclays Premier League results has certainly lifted my spirits. In harsh times like these, it's always comforting to know that your beloved team won emphatically over the weekend, and went to the top of the table, while the so-called "big teams" just managed to secure a boring draw.

And who cares about piles of work when your team, consisting of kids, some even younger than me(-_-), just thrashed Sheffield United by 6 goals to the good last night? Oh, what a mood-lifter eh? eheheh.

Go Gunners. That's why i love Arfsenal and that's why you should too.

This Friday, the cuti will officially start. Albeit for a week, it is a much needed break.
As much as i'm looking forward towards the raya holidays, i can't help but feel kinda sad though, as some of my friends have already made their way back to their respective kampungs.

Yeah, one by one. Leaving. It's getting quieter and boring here.
Sometimes i wish i am a kampung folk, whose kampung is hundreds of miles away, so that i can truly appreciate the meaning of home. So that the song Balik Kampung is not just a sing-a-long song. But then again, naahh. No way. hahaha. Nevermind, i'll certainly be able to feel that feeling when i'm studying overseas nanti. hahaha

On the brighter side, the holidays are just a few days away! And a raya holiday at that! Now, that's why i'm really looking forward to this weekend. The puasa is almost ending, the festive mood will start to kick in, and the raya preparations will start too. And of course, the girlfy will be coming back this Friday too. All the more reason to get excited huh? wahahahaha

How time flies. Rasa macam baru je start puasa. Dah nak habis dah.
Haven't really got the chance to savour the month of Ramadhan and it's almost ending already. Yeah, as poyo as it may sound, that comes straight from the heart yo.

So, 2 more days.
Just 2 more days before this round of bloody workload ends.
2 more days before the real raya mood starts to kick in.
2 more days before saying goodbye to friends who are going back to kampung.
2 more days before the raya holiday starts.
And 2 more days to go before i can go and menggedik with the girlfy. woohoo.

And 2 more days it shall be..
